2021 COVID-19 Policies & Procedures

The Grandview Baseball and Softball Association (GBSA) will be modifying our league play for the 2021 Spring/Summer Season.  These policies and procedures will be implemented in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and are in accordance with local, county, and state mandates for a safe return to sports.  

 

Waivers

  • Parents/guardians of all GBSA participants will be required to sign the “City of Grandview Heights COVID-19 Participant User Agreement.”
  • Parents/guardians of all Upper Arlington, Bexley, and Gahanna baseball and softball leagues who will be competing against GBSA teams will be required to sign the “City of Grandview Heights COVID-19 Participant User Agreement.”
  • Parents/guardians of all GBSA participants will be required to sign the GBSA participation waiver that includes a COVID-19 release statement (complete waiver has been provided to the City of Grandview Heights). 

 

Health Screening

  • Parents/guardians will be responsible for completing a health screen at home prior to allowing their child to attend any GBSA practices or games.  Parents/guardians will be informed that this health screen should include monitoring their child’s temperature and symptoms of COVID-19. 

 

Equipment/Facility

  • All youth will be asked to provide their own water bottles for use.  No shared hydration will be used.
  • All youth will be asked to provide their own hand sanitizer for use.  In addition, GBSA will provide each team with a team supply of hand sanitizer.
  • Each team will designate a ‘social distance coordinator.’  All shared equipment (such as catcher’s gear) will be sanitized after each use by the social distance coordinator.  GBSA will strongly encourage all parents/families to purchase individual equipment for their participants, such as helmets, face masks, gloves, and bats.  
  • Signs will be posted at all fields that encourages spectators/families to bring their own lawn chairs and practice social distancing while at the parks and asks that the bleachers are not used.  
  • GBSA will not be operating concessions during the 2021 season. 

 

Practices

  • Coaches will require all youth to use hand sanitizer prior to the start of a practice.
  • Coaches will ask that everyone leave the field immediately after the conclusion of a practice.
  • Face coverings will be required by all coaches and players at all times while on or off the field.
  • No gum or sunflower seeds along with anything else that can be transferred from the mouth will be allowed. 

Games

  • Coaches will require all youth to use hand sanitizer prior to the start of a game.
  • Coaches will ask that everyone leave the field immediately after the conclusion of a game.
  • Face coverings will be required by all coaches and players at all times while on or off the field.
  • No gum or sunflower seeds along with anything else that can be transferred from the mouth will be allowed. 
  • When a team is up to bat, only the next four players up will remain in the dugout and everyone else will go and sit with their family until it is their turn to hit.  (One child batting, one in the “on deck” circle, and two remaining in the dugout)
  • Game spectators will be limited to immediate family only.  Families will be asked to provide their own seating (i.e., lawn chairs) and must sit 6 feet away from other families.
  • There will be no post-game handshakes.  Each team will line up at on their respective baseline and tip their hat/visor to the opponent. 
  • Each team’s social distance coordinator will spray dugout benches with an approved disinfectant at the conclusion of each game.  
  • Each team will have a social distance coordinator for each game to help coaches with the players while they are on the bench.

 

Scheduling

  • Games and practices will be scheduled to allow 15 minutes between them to allow for the other teams to leave prior to the next teams arrival. 
  • Coaches, players, spectators will arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to games and no more than 5 minutes prior to practice.  

 

 Spectators

  • Spectators will be limited to immediate family only at all practices and games.  
  • Spectators will be asked to provide their own seating (i.e., lawn chairs) and must sit 6 feet away from other spectators not in their immediate household. 
  • All spectators will be responsible for conducting their own self-evaluation of COVID-19 prior to attending events. 
  • All spectators are required to wear masks until seated.  If spectators get up to walk around, masks are required.
  • Spectators will not be allowed in any dugouts or on the field of play. 
  • No one should congregate in common areas or parking lots before or after practices or games. 

 

Contact Tracing

  • GBSA will maintain a list of all players and coaches via TeamSnap and make contact information available for any potential contact tracing needs.
